In response to the ongoing economic challenges, the United States is set to roll out a new fiscal stimulus, commonly referred to as a stimulus check. This initiative aims to provide financial aid to workers and families during these difficult times. The stimulus will be distributed in the form of tax credits and other funds, with a broad range of eligibility criteria.
Eligibility for Stimulus Checks
The IRS has emphasized the wide scope of eligibility for these payments. Notably, even those who are exempt from filing taxes may be eligible. Currently, many families have not yet claimed these stimulus checks. If this remains the case, eligible individuals risk missing out on up to $1,200 in support if they fail to apply. The deadline to claim the tax credit is December 31, 2023.
Earned Income Tax Credit Criteria
To be eligible, individuals must meet certain criteria:
- Residency Requirement: Applicants must be residents of Washington, having filed a 2022 tax return with the state using an ITIN or SSN, and have resided there for at least 183 days.
- Income Tax Filing: Eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit on the federal tax return for 2022 is required.
- Age Requirement: Applicants should be aged between 25 and 65.
- Income Thresholds: Eligibility also varies based on income and the number of dependent children. For instance, a single individual without children must earn less than $16,480 to be eligible for a $300 check.
Eligibility Based on Income and Family Size
- Single Parents: Families with an income less than $43,492 for a single parent can receive up to $600 for one child.
- Married Couples: For married couples, the income threshold is $49,622 to receive the same amount.
- Families with Two Children: For a payment of up to $900, the family income must be below $43,399 for single parents or $55,529 for married parents.
- Families with Three Children: For the maximum payment of $1,200, the income cap is $59,187 for married parents and $53,057 for single parents.
