There is so much to do in the KC area, and one event that I’m definitely interested in participating in is KC’s First Fridays. On the First Friday of every month all year long, thousands of residents and visitors fill the sidewalks of the Crossroads in Kansas City to enjoy this popular event. Arts organizations, galleries, studios, and many local businesses feature a variety of artists as well as live entertainment from 5 to 9 p.m. You can look forward to a variety of artwork from all over, produced both locally and abroad. Live music is often playing, giving you a chance to check out some local bands you may not have heard of before.

You can take a look at one of the KC community’s creative wall murals and visit the exciting new Art Alleys between Baltimore and Wyandotte from 18th Street to Southwest Blvd. This area will be filled with Art Vendors selling their crafts. Explore the best of KC restaurants or check out the popular food truck scene for both a unique dish and experience.

Just because most of the art galleries close at nine doesn’t mean that your night on the town has to end. The First Fridays Film Festival hosts free showings at Crown Center’s MTH theater. Showings usually begin after the end of First Friday proper, so you won’t have to worry about choosing one or the other, just head over once you’ve gotten your fill of KC’s art scene.

You should arrive early at First Fridays if you would like to secure a good parking space. I would recommend parking at Crown Center and either walk or taking a short ride on the KC streetcar down to the event. Attending First Friday is completely free (not counting gas money and any food or souvenirs you may want to purchase while you’re down there.) First Fridays seems like an excellent chance to explore what the KC area has to offer culturally, especially in regards to local art. I can’t wait to go and experience it for myself!

Whether you’re going alone, with a group of friends, or on a date, First Fridays is definitely worth checking out. As with any public event, remember to stay safe by keeping an eye on your surroundings. So what are you waiting for? Get out there, make memories, and, most importantly, have fun!
