Taking a page from the PGA playbook, BSHS and BSS head boys golf coaches Doug Gillispie and Casey Enright hosted the first Cats-Jags Ryder Cup at Adam’s Pointe on Tuesday, April 16th. The teams played a total of eight matches, with a win scoring a point for the respective team. With the competition coming down to the last pairing, the Cats topped the Jags 4.5-3.5.

“Big props to two freshman Josh Hammerschmidt and Carson Corwin, who came up clutch on the 18th hole of the day. Had they not won that last hole, the entire match it would have been a tie!” Gillispie said.

Though the last pairing sealed it, Gillispie called the day a total team effort, with juniors Ben Podjenski, Caden Jackley, Luke Sanders Andrew Onstott, Hayden Williams, Liam Hammett, Griffin Fergerson and sophomore Blake Rooney all scoring points for the Cats. According to Gillispie, Podjenski had a big match win and and Jackely earned a half point in their singles matches. Beating a quality opponent such as the Jags bodes well for the team moving forward.

“I am really pleased with the guys. Their hard work has paid off, knocking off one of the best teams in the state,” Gillispie said.
