Unlike other competitions, where a contestant faces an opponent in a playoff venue, the path to FBLA state and nationals requires several other steps.
First, in February, seniors Brett Portlance, Blake Stegner and Jake Reed competed at the District Competition and took 1st place overall in Management Decision Making. Following that, they took a written test in order to pre-qualify them to actually compete at the State Competition. After qualifying by being one of the top 10 test scores in the state, on Monday they competed at State.
In their State event, Portlance, Stegner and Reed were given a case scenario that they had only 20 minutes to prep and present to three business professionals. Their high test score and successful performance score they placed them 3rd overall in the state, qualifying them for a spot at Nationals in San Antonio this summer.
The process to compete at Nationals will be the same as state.
